Description
Laid by the “Happy Hundred Pasture Pest Patrol” squad, these eggs are free ranged on organically managed pasture. We inspect each one individually for quality.
Unlike cage eggs, free ranged and pasture-raised eggs allow chickens the freedom to express their full range of behaviours. In relation to the area enclosed by their electric fence, our flock size means that our chickens have 6 times more space each than the current “free range” egg industry requirements.
Our chickens can spend the maximum time possible enjoying life outdoors. Each morning at sunrise, the door to their housing opens automatically. A solar-powered electric fence and access to hide under their housing if needed provide protection from predators. The chickens can access the housing at all times, so they can lay eggs in the nest boxes whenever they feel the urge. The housing also provides protection from the weather. When the chickens go to bed at sundown, the doors automatically lock the chickens safely away until morning. The fence solar energiser also has a battery which keeps it electrified overnight for additional protection.
We move the chickens to a large patch of fresh grass each week. Along with the insects and worms they catch, the chickens also eat a balanced grain supplement. This ensures that they have sufficient protein in their diets. Have you ever seen a chicken catching mosquitoes? It’s pretty hilarious when they jump to catch them “on the wing”, and they look like they’re having fun in the process!
Our eggs are graded by weight, and you can read more about that here.
While we would love to be able to reuse our egg cartons, industry regulations do not allow that for cardboard cartons. This doesn’t mean that you can’t recycle them, or use them for various craft activities, growing seedlings or other creative uses. We’d love to see what you come up with so send us a picture via email here.
